Full transparency: I received this bottle for review anonymously, not directly from the distillery. While it wasn’t my money paying for it, these are my unfiltered, whimsical opinions.
The 2026 Festival Release continues the recent trend of single-digit age statements. This is a 7-year-old, medium-peated single malt, matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks and finished for six months in first-fill Ruby Port casks. At 53.9% ABV, it’s a dangerously easy sipper that feels closer to 46%. The color is a stunning rosy auburn
Sour cherry jam, salted butter, and a metallic liquorice tin over a campfire. Gentle charcoal and woodfire smoke with a funky, cider like fruitiness reminiscent of Strongbow Dark Fruit.
Oily and creamy texture with a slightly gritty edge.
The fruit comes forward with massive strawberry notes, specifically reminiscent of chunky, rubbery strawberry sweets and dusty jelly babies. Regarding the peat, it feels more lightly peated than medium, offering a savory “Sunday roast” quality complete with salted potatoes and cranberry sauce.
It also carries that distinct, dusty ground pepper note which has become a signature house style for Glen Scotia. The finish is good but a bit limp as it is relatively short and herbaceous, fading quickly into a light ashiness.
At £58, it’s cheaper than previous years and feels like a fair deal.
If you enjoy Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Talisker Port Ruighe, or are a Glen Scotia completionist, this is a solid pickup. It’s a “limper” port influence than their 2020 Tawny Port release, but it remains a very high quality liquid for the price.
