My Ultimate Whisky Permashelf in 2026
Every whisky enthusiast has a few bottles they simply cannot be without. The bottles that get replaced as soon as they start running low. The whiskies that earn a permanent place on the shelf.
Recently my whisky collection crept past the 100 bottle mark and got me thinking. If I could only keep ten bottles, which ones would make the cut?
These are my whisky permashelf bottles. Reliable, enjoyable and always worth having around.
If you want the full breakdown, tasting notes and a few questionable jokes along the way, make sure you watch the full list on YouTube.
A permashelf bottle is not about showing off but more about consistency. Whiskies that deliver great value, fantastic flavour and never disappoint when you pour a dram. Some are sentimental favourites while others simply punch well above their price point. My list includes everything from underrated blends to smoky Islay classics, covering a wide range of styles and flavours.
The list starts with the legendary Cutty Sark Prohibition. Of course it does. This underrated blended Scotch remains one of the best value whiskies available and holds a special place in my whisky journey. Other standout blends include the excellent Symington 10 and the fruit packed Compass Box Orchard House, proving that blended Scotch whisky deserves far more respect than it often receives.
Moving into single malts, favourites such as Glencadam 10 and Ardnamurchan AD showcase bright fruit, coastal character and exceptional drinkability. Deanston 18 brings outstanding value for an older whisky, while Kilkerran 12 delivers everything I love about Campbeltown whisky with its funky, coastal and complex character.
For peat lovers, Benromach Peat Smoke offers a brilliant Speyside twist on smoky whisky, while Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak combines powerful peat with rich sherry influence. Rounding out the list is Port Charlotte 10, a whisky that perfectly captures everything I want from a heavily peated Islay single malt.
