There is a certain charm to it, or at least there was.
An iconic bottle, which was one I found myself staring at quite often during the quiet hours working at the local newsagents, which has now lost a bit of edge to it. Now it is much more reflective of the liquid inside with more white space a designer could dream of.
A vibrant liquid which has been artificially coloured ensuring consistency across the many thousand of bottles released.
A very soft subtle nose, which makes you really hunt for the notes of warm toffees and cookie dough.
A slight bit of Spring time moss adds an extra edge to this rather flat aroma.
Instantly I just want to describe this as bland.
Expecting a bit of an ethanol hit, the flavours instead match the nose with soft caramels, toffees and malt.
Highly approachable on the palate but not one that will make you want to keep revisiting.
Often found for way under the £20 mark, this is a staple for a reason and not because of the taste.
Us whisky enthusiasts often look down on these 40% abv blends but forget that this is the bedrock of the Scotch industry carrying the vast majority of the share worldwide. In that regard, you have to respect the accessible price point, though just on the supermarket shelf.
