Now the first thing is do I call this bottle Tullamore D.E.W or Tullamore Dew? The bottle clearly has dots between each letter and comes from the initials of Daniel E. Williams and yet it is marketed everywhere as Dew. Even their own website cannot make up its mind!

Anyway, enough of that. This review is on the closest rival to the big boy of Irish Whiskey, Jamesons. Now overall I like Jamesons, let’s see how Tullamore Dew compares.

Experience

While it may not be as visually iconic as Jamesons, this is a good looking bottle. With the deep green label and bright gold (read caramel coloured) liquid sloshing inside, you can tell this is an Irish Whiskey. The fact is has Irish Whiskey written in gold capitals on the front is also a nod to this.

If anyone knows why there is the image of two dogs on the lid I would love to know.

Nose

Soft, faint and sweet. The longer you keep the snout in the glass it turns more fruity with delicate peaches tied in with the classic toffee Irish whiskey character.

Taste

There is a tiny bit of heat as it crosses the boundaries from glass to the lip which instantly just turns into all-butter shortbread bisucuits. It thinly splashes around the glass and mouth but as a budget blend, this is expected.

It fades quickly with a mild metallic tang and nice crunchy green apples. The kind of Whiskey that makes you instantly want another glass.

Value for Money

This often sits at £16 online and in supermarkets. SIXTEEN POUNDS. For a full 70cl bottle it is well worth trying and like me, you may find something that you like. I grabbed my bottle on offer from Amazon and will be sad to see it go.

Is it better than Jameson? Possibly. Is it better then Jamesons Caskmates Stout Edition? No.
