Monkey Shoulder was possibly the first full sized Whisky bottle I owned, so it will always have a soft spot to me. I have recently revisited this great Speyside Malt for a real in-depth analysis. This blend takes from every corner of the William Grant & Sons brand and is made up of Kininvie, Balvenie, and Glenfiddich.
Pleasant but not dull, the nose is made up of a great blend of different elements which spans from very sweet oranges to earthy funk. There is enough complexity to dig a little and is rounded off with a welcoming spice.
The texture is a little bit thin but contains a mixture of flavours that come to life the more you sip. There is definitely a Terry’s chocolate orange bobbing up and down amongst the honey, vanilla and melted butter. Leaves with a good bit of a sting in the mouth like a slap in the chops from a marmoset (I can only imagine they are strong for their size).
£25 for a great looking bottle that comes in a cage, would be bananas to miss out on it. This can be picked up from Amazon, The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt and is in most Supermarkets. This version in the cage was grabbed from Waitrose on offer.
