Excited to be reviewing one of my favourite bottles, Nikka From the Barrel. The Japanese blend combines both single malt and grain whiskies to create something that is truly unique. The packaging and branding is so beautifully simplistic in design, the only fault with this bottle is that it comes in 50cl not 70cl.
On the nose it has that sweet floral note found throughout Japanese Whisky but is then backed up with strong fresh fruit punch and oak filled spice.
With the first sip, the warming winter spices and rich caramel, drench the mouth as the hearty dram swirls from cheek to cheek. It really is full-bodied with a pleasant dash of chocolatey smoke gently sweeping between the orange, almonds and cinnamon. The taste certainly holds its ground on the tongue for a few minutes.
Unfortunately, only being 50cl instead of the UK standard of 70cl it is not as good value as it could be. However, with this bottle being under £40 it is a great price compared to other Japanese bottles and it is certainly a phenomenal dram to have for a special occasion. It can often be found on Amazon for the best price.
