I have been super excited to try this cask strength, sherry bomb after hearing nothing but good things. Named after the alcohol content in British proof, at 60% this is not watered down but instead made up of different barrels and batches to hit that magic number. While this is a non age statement whisky it is said to be matured between 8 and 10 years in both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels.
A very intense and powerful nose which is brimming with cooked apples, pears and the dominant notes of sherry. A real punch on the snout.
In the mouth it is an explosion of sherry sweetness leaving a strong tingle on the tongue. There are lots of flavours of liquorice, dates and brazil nuts matched with the alcohol sweetness.
With the samples of these I decided to directly test between a drop of water and without. I personally found that the water brought out more caramel and dark chocolate, yet overall it doesn’t need it.
At below £50 this is phenomenal value especially as that drop of water in each will help spread it even further. You can pick it up from Tyndrum Whisky for £48.76
