Glengoyne only really appeared on my radar following their rebrand in 2020, with the usual social media moaning that goes with it. While I am not family with their old marketing I am a fan of the goose made up of clear cut lines which ripple through the rest of their marketing.
With their “unhurried” slogan it proudly promotes that they are Scotland’s slowest distilled malt. Katy Muggeridge the Senior Brand Manager stated that: “for every minute other whiskies spend in their stills, ours spends three” which may not be great for profit margins it is wonderful PR.
This sample was part of a Pour & Sip sample box which is worth checking out for getting your hands on different whiskies to try.
With the Legacy series focusing on Glengoyne’s history this bottle is a tribute to the Russel family who brought Glengoyne in 2003.
This dram has a great amber hue which is made all the better when you find out it is the natural barrel influence colour. The bottle is made up of 48% first-fill bourbon barrels, 35% in refill oak casks and then 17% dash of first fill sherry.
A real fresh sweet nose which is so closely akin to the aroma of chopping up honeydew melons. It is very flowery and floaty with maybe a little bit of trail mix.
Sipping this dram is dangerously smooth, before any notes have been jotted down my glass is now half empty. The rich creamy fruit stays at the forefront for a few seconds before the sherry spice barges its way through.
The finish leaves the same dry taste in your mouth as when you bite into an under ripe pear with some sweetness for good measure. The spice lingers unnoticed till the very last moment waving you a long goodbye,
Released at £55 it is a fair price point for a non core range expression, however to me it doesn’t translate into great value for money. It can be picked up from Really Good Whisky and Tyndrum Whisky This is my first try of Glengoyne and looking forward to diving into their core range.
